Chinese medical team organized Brightness Action free clinic program in Equatorial Guinea

The continuous medical cooperation between China and Equatorial Guinea for the past 50 years, is one the best examples of the fraternal friendship between the two countries. This year coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Equatorial Guinea and this October marks the 52nd anniversary of Equatorial Guinea's independence. For this special October, the Chinese (Dongguan) medical team in Equatorial Guinea opened a 4-day (October 13th-16th) free clinic in Equatorial Guinea and provided free surgery for patients with cataracts.

The free clinic, held in the capital's Malabo Regional Hospital, was operated by Chinese ophthalmologists Chen Shuo and Zheng Jinbiao. The event was widely publicized a month earlier on the television, radio and by the Chinese Embassy's official twitter account in Equatorial Guinea, and accepted applications from the cataract patients who were willing to undergo the operation. All patients had completed nucleic acid test two days before the surgery.

At 8:00 a.m. on October 13th, the patients waited outside the operating room. The medical workers who participated in the event, offered excellent service inside and outside of the operating room. They were busy preparing surgical instruments, registering patient information, explaining precautions to take before and after the operation, in a very orderly manner. The surgeries on the first day started at 9:00 a.m. and finished at 2:00 p.m., five patients were operated on successful. This continued as planned for the next 3 days

The activity was strongly supported by the Ministry of social welfare and health in Equatorial Guinea and broadcast widely on social media. It was reported on in detail, by Present, a local news website, and Equatorial Guinea's state television. Chen Shaoji, leader of Dongguan medical team, said in an interview that the Chinese medical team organized this Brightness Action free clinic program in Equatorial Guinea to help the people suffering from cataracts, so that they could get timely treatment, restore their eyesight and live a better life. "We hope that the country's residents can receive high-quality medical services and good health to enjoy a great life. Chinese medical teams will continue to hold Brightness Action events in Equatorial Guinea, doing their best to serve the people of Equatorial Guinea. We hope to see a further deepening and development of the relationship between the two countries."
