"Setting up Wires" Guo Tongjiang

Guo Tongjiang(1925—2003), an eminent comic book painter, came from Machong, Dongguan. Entitled as a Cantonese representative of comic books, he was a deputy director of Dongguan Culture Center and the third director of the China Artists Association.

Created by Guo in 1953, this traditional Chinese painting depicts people in Dongguan setting up overhead wires. In the prelude of the work, the author described power grids as “spider’s websacross the Pearl River and telegraph poles”, and he considered this scene bears the memory of the times.
