Dongguan enters China's very large city list

In the "Statistical Charts of Economic and Social Development: the Basic Situation of the Population in Very Large and Megacities according to the Seventh National Census" published by the National Bureau of Statistics, Dongguan City is now ranked 2nd among the 14 very large cities listed (sorted by urban population).

The seventh national census data states there are seven megacities in China (sorted by urban population), i.e. Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Tianjin. Meanwhile, 14 cities are listed as very large: Wuhan, Dongguan, Xi'an, Hangzhou, Foshan, Nanjing, Shenyang, Qingdao, Jinan, Changsha, Harbin Zhengzhou, Kunming, and Dalian.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, cities with an urban resident population of more than 10 million are classed as megacities, and cities with an urban resident population of more than 5 million and less than 10 million are very large cities. The resident population in towns and villages is not considered in the listing.
