The second- and third-generation gene sequencing analysis conducted by Guangdong provincial CDC has found that the virus in the two previously-reported cases is the Delta variant.

The epidemiological investigation shows that the two newly confirmed cases have clear epidemiological links with previously reported confirmed cases, which means they are all in the same transmission chain. People who visited the same places as the above-mentioned confirmed cases simultaneously should report to the community in time and take the initiative to receive a nucleic acid test.As of 2pm today, a total of 535 close contacts have been identified, all of whom have been quarantined and sampled for nucleic acid testing. In a bid to effectively control the epidemic, mass nucleic acid testing was carried out in Dalang Town and its six neighbouring towns of Changping, Liaobu, Dongkeng, Songshan Lake, Huangjiang and Dalingshan yesterday. 837,400 samples were collected in Dalang Town, which were all negative except for one abnormality. A total of 2,660,936 samples were collected in six neighbouring towns, and the results were all negative.

Citywide virus testing launched today

Given the current epidemic situation in Dongguan city, to curb the further spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, the city launched citywide mass nucleic acid testing today for all residents and those coming to the city. Dalang has also started its second round of nucleic acid testing for all residents. In this round of citywide mass nucleic acid testing, Dongguan has arranged nearly 20,000 medical staff to collect the samples and prepare materials that can meet the testing needs of more than 12.2 million people. As of 4pm today, 8.229 million samples have been collected in this round of testing, which may last until 10pm today.

In a notice issued by the Dongguan COVID-19 Prevention and Control Command Office, to ensure that the testing can be completed efficiently, the general public is asked to cooperate and register their ID information via the "Yue He Suan(粤核酸)" WeChat mini-program in advance and generate a QR code. They shall follow the arrangement of the village (community) to go to the testing site and complete the sampling work under the staff's instructions. Wear masks throughout the process, maintain social distancing of at least one meter and minimize conversation with others in a queue.
