China has a total of 105 large cities, including 7 megacities, 14 megacities, 14 type Ⅰ metropolises and 70 type Ⅱ metropolises, according to the 2020 Census. Dongguan, with a permanent population of 10.466,600 and an urbanization rate of 92.1%, is one of the largest megacities in China, ranking ninth, and first among prefectural cities in the country.

The relevant person in charge of the Dongguan Bureau of Statistics introduced that the census results show that in the past ten years, Dongguan's population development situation has seen some positive changes.
