The Shenzhen-Jiangmen Railway, a crucial component of the coastal railway of the "eight verticals and eight horizontals" high-speed rail network in China, has commenced the core tunnel construction in the Dongguan segment. The main line originates from Shenzhen Xili Station, running through Shenzhen Bao'an, Dongguan Binhaiwan, Guangzhou Nansha, Zhongshan, and reaches Jiangmen.
The entire line includes seven stations: Xili Railway Station, Shenzhen Airport East Railway Station, Binhaiwan Railway Station, Nansha Station, Zhongshanbei Railway Station, Henglan Railway Station, and Jiangmen Railway Station.
The new Shenzhen to Jiangmen railway, including the initial construction phase of the Pearl River Estuary Tunnel, covers a total length of approximately 116 kilometers. The Dongguan section encompasses about 13.5 kilometers of the route, with a significant portion passing through Binhaiwan New Area, crossing Jiaoyiwan and Shajiao Peninsula predominantly in an east-west direction. Notably, a new elevated station, Binhaiwan Railway Station, is being constructed in Shajiao Peninsula.
The Dongguan section of the Shenzhen-Jiangmen Railway commences at the 7th shield shaft near the Kexing Science Park in Binhaiwan New Area. It involves tunneling eastward through Maozhou River, connecting with the Shenzhen section. Towards the west, it includes the construction of three major elevated rail projects: the Cross-River High-Speed Bridge, Binhaiwan Railway Station Super Bridge, and Shajiao Super Bridge. The terminus lies at Taisha Road on Shajiao Peninsula, connecting to the Pearl River Estuary Tunnel.
The 7th shield shaft is positioned at the western exit of the Shenzhen-Dongguan Tunnel, currently in course of construction. Recently, on the construction site, earthwork excavation moved into its final phase at a depth of 28 meters below the ground.
