On July 13, the Chinese Sports Delegation for the 2024 Paris Olympics was officially established at a rally held in Beijing. The delegation consists of 716 members, including 405 athletes—136 men and 269 women. Dongguan, known as the "City of Sports" for continuously supplying outstanding athletes to national teams, has contributed five athletes to the delegation this time, all from its signature basketball program.

In June, the Chinese Women's Basketball Team and the Chinese Women's 3x3 Basketball Team announced their rosters for the Paris Olympics, with all five basketball players from Dongguan making the final cut. The Chinese Women's Basketball Team, which maintains a strong representation from Dongguan, includes Li Yueru, currently playing for the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, and Huang Sijing, Yang Liwei, and Yang Shuyu, who have all previously played for Dongguan Xintongsheng Basketball Team in the WCBA. The Chinese Women's 3x3 Basketball Team includes Chen Mingling from Dongguan Xintongsheng. Additionally, the head coach of the Chinese Women's Basketball Team, Zheng Wei, is also from Guangdong.

The Chinese Women's Basketball Team, as the runners-up of the 2022 World Cup, champions of the 2023 Asia Cup, and champions of the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, has been on an upward trajectory in recent years, with significant contributions from Dongguan players. According to the plan, the team will depart for France on July 16, officially entering the Olympic schedule. The women’s basketball competition in Paris will feature 12 teams, with China placed in Group A alongside Serbia, Spain, and Puerto Rico. The top two teams from each group, along with the best two third-placed teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.

In the realm of 3x3 basketball, Dongguan's Chen Mingling will compete alongside Wan Jiyuan, Wang Lili, and Zhang Ziting. The Chinese 3x3 team, currently participating in the 2024 FIBA 3x3 Women's Series in Langfang City, Hebei Province, is honing their skills and improving team chemistry in preparation for the Olympics.

Among the 405 athletes in the Chinese delegation for the Paris Olympics, 39 are from Guangdong, including 5 from Dongguan. Notably, the oldest and youngest athletes in the Chinese delegation are both from Guangdong: 37-year-old track and field athlete Liu Hong and 11-year-old skateboarder Zheng Haohao.
