There's good news beyond just the upcoming weekend: cooler weather is on the horizon for Dongguan! A wave of cold air, accompanied by thunderstorms, is set to bring relief from the lingering heat, with temperatures expected to drop to as low as 22°C.
Starting from September 19, cooler air will sweep across most of China, making its way down to the south. This cold front, according to China Weather, will affect more than 24 provinces. While northern regions may see a quicker transition into fall, the impact for southern China, including Guangdong, will be more gradual, yet still notable.
From September 20 to 22, the northern cold air will extend its reach into Guangdong, bringing thunderstorms and gusty winds. It is expected to chase away the "autumn tiger", a term used to describe the lingering heat after the official start of autumn, offering a much-needed cool-down.
Dongguan weather
While Dongguan won't experience an overnight plunge into winter, the upcoming days will bring a U-shaped temperature trend, with gradual cooling followed by a slight rebound. The persistent heat is expected to ease, though sporadic rainstorms will continue over the next week.
September 20: Dongguan will see partly cloudy skies with scattered thunderstorms and localized heavy rainfall, with brief periods of strong winds reaching up to 8 on the Beaufort scale. Temperatures will still hover around 34°C, so it'll be warm despite the rain.
September 21-22: Influenced by the tropical convergence zone and a weak cold front, Dongguan will experience more frequent rain and gusty winds, with some areas seeing heavy downpours. By Sept. 22, residents will feel the cool down, with temperatures dipping 3-5°C.
September 23-24: Expect widespread rain, with temperatures dropping to as low as 22°C, providing a refreshing break from the heat.
The relief will be short-lived, though. Starting around September 25-28, rain will continue, but temperatures will begin to rise again.
For now, it's still quite warm, so be prepared for both heat and rain in the short term. Keep an umbrella handy for those afternoon thunderstorms and make sure you're ready for cooler temperatures at night as the cold front moves in.
