In a heartfelt piece published in the Hong Kong newspaper Wenweipo, Hong Kong's Secretary for Security, Mr. Tang Ping-keung, expressed his deep affection for Dongguan, the city of his parents. Through his words, he shared a poignant connection to his roots, illuminating the remarkable transformation of Dongguan and its significance in the Greater Bay Area.

Last year, Mr. Tang and several prominent Hong Kong figures embarked on a journey to Dongguan to reconnect with their heritage. They were warmly welcomed by local residents, witnessing firsthand the city's remarkable transformation and growth. Mr. Tang recounted visiting his father's childhood home in Yuetang Village, Hengli Town, feeling a sense of belonging, despite never having lived there.

The journey also brought them to Tianbian Village in Shipai Town, his mother's ancestral home, where Mr. Tang reunited with distant relatives. Upon returning to Hong Kong, Tang shared his journey with his father through photographs, bringing tears of joy and nostalgia. This reconnection underscored the enduring bonds of family that transcend time and distance, illustrating the powerful ties of kinship.

Mr. Tang's reflections extend to the broader context of China's rapid modernization. Under the banner of rural revitalization, villages like Tianbian have transformed from humble settlements into thriving communities. Having witnessed Dongguan's remarkable growth firsthand, Mr. Tang noted Dongguan's rapid development, particularly in its manufacturing sector, and its strategic role within the Greater Bay Area. With over 8,000 Hong Kong enterprises thriving in Dongguan, he expressed optimism about the future.

As a Dongguan native, Mr. Tang hopes to contribute to his hometown's continued development. He envisions a future where Hong Kong and Dongguan collaborate closely, enhancing their strengths to foster mutual growth and well-being for their communities.
