A warm Lantern Festival for high-level experts in Dongguan

Under the guidance of the Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau, the Dongguan International Technology Commercialization Center and Dongguan Science and Technology Talent Service Center hosted a special Lantern Festival gathering for foreign experts, high-level talents from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and their families. The event brought together scholars, scientists, professionals, and entrepreneurs working in Dongguan, allowing them to experience the rich traditions of the Lantern Festival while strengthening bonds within the international community.For many attendees, it was their first time celebrating the Lantern Festival. Muhammad Waqas, a postdoctoral researcher from Pakistan, was captivated by the festive atmosphere. "The atmosphere is so lively! It's amazing how traditions like paper cutting bring people together," he said, proudly displaying the butterfly he had crafted. "Since coming to China, I've grown to love its culture and people."

Paolo Piccione, an Italian mathematician at Greater Bay University, was struck by the seamless blend of modernity and tradition in Dongguan. "The city embraces cutting-edge technology while preserving its cultural heritage. It's a balance that fascinates me," he shared. "This is my first Lantern Festival ever, what stands out most is how welcoming Chinese people are, they truly enjoy involving others in their celebrations."

Nikolaos Vassilopoulos, a Greek particle physicist at the China Spallation Neutron Source, reflected on the festival's unique charm in Dongguan. "I've lived in both Beijing and Dongguan, and here, celebrations feel more personal. Lanterns symbolize reunion, and every year, this event brings colleagues and friends together, making the Spring Festival even more meaningful."

Welcoming the guests, Ou Hexiao, a representative of the Dongguan Science and Technology Bureau, highlighted the city's dedication to innovation and inclusivity. With a thriving R&D ecosystem and a growing international talent pool, Dongguan is fast becoming a hub for scientific and technological advancement. "Achieving high-quality development depends on technological innovation and the contributions of top talent," she noted. "We hope events like this strengthen connections and allow global experts to experience the warmth and vibrancy of Dongguan."

Beyond lanterns and sweet dumplings, what resonated most was a sense of belonging. "Celebrating here feels warm and festive," Paolo remarked. "Dongguan isn't just where I work, it's starting to feel like home."Through shared traditions and new friendships, the event deepened cultural understanding, reinforcing Dongguan’s reputation as a welcoming city for global talent.
