The world's top female snooker players are headed to Changping Town, Dongguan, as the 2025 World Women's Snooker Championship (2025 WWS) is set to take place from May 20 to 27 at the upgraded Changping Gymnasium.

This prestigious tournament, jointly managed by the World Women's Snooker (WWS) and the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA), is the longest-running and most competitive event in women's snooker. First held in 1983, the championship has grown into a globally respected stage where legends are made.

This year's event promises high-level clashes and record participation. Defending champion Bai Yulu of China will return to defend her crown. She'll be joined by local rising star Liu Ziling from Dongguan and Ng On-yee from Hong Kong, a seasoned competitor with multiple titles to her name. From across the globe, England's legendary Reanne Evans and Thailand's Mink Nutcharut are among the marquee international names ready to compete.

The 2024 championship, also hosted in Changping, marked a turning point for the tournament. It was the first time the event was held in China, and notably, the first time a world-class snooker competition was staged in a town-level venue. Its success earned high praise from WWS, calling it a model for decentralized, community-based international sports events.

Dongguan is often called the "Home of Snooker Champions" in China. It has produced a long list of elite players, including Ding Junhui, Xiao Guodong, Zhang Anda, and rising female stars like Bai Yulu and Liu Ziling. Backed by a robust training ecosystem and a growing pool of young talent, the city has become a focal point for China's snooker development.

Changping's successful bid to host the WWS Championship from 2024 through 2026, along with priority rights for five more years, reflects the town's long-term commitment to the sport. In 2025, the Changping Gymnasium has been upgraded to meet international standards with smart facilities, 1,200 immersive viewing seats, and live global broadcasting. It is on track to become a national hub for snooker training, competition, and innovation.

Beyond the competition itself, the championship exemplifies Dongguan's broader ambition to weave sports into the fabric of everyday life and urban development. From world-class facilities and a seamlessly coordinated support system that ensures athletes feel at home, to immersive public engagement through the city-wide "Snooker Carnival Month," the event becomes a living, breathing experience shared by all. This dynamic momentum extends beyond the arena: Dongguan is cultivating a full-fledged snooker ecosystem, where manufacturing, talent development, and tournament operations are growing hand-in-hand, laying the groundwork for the sport to thrive as both an industry and a cultural identity. In doing so, Dongguan is turning snooker from a niche pursuit into a powerful engine for economic and tourism integration.
