On the evening of May 19, the 2025 WWS World Women's Snooker Championship officially commenced in Changping, Dongguan. As an A-class international snooker event, this year's event has attracted more than 70 top players from over 10 countries and regions, including all of the world's top seven ranked players, setting a new record for the number of participants in the tournament's history.
From May 20 to 27, the Dongguan Changping Gymnasium will host thrilling matches as players battle for the title. The champion will lift a uniquely designed trophy that blends elements of Changping's intangible cultural heritage, highlighting the rich fusion of traditional Chinese culture and modern sport.
This year's championship features the strongest lineup in women's snooker. China's Bai Yulu, who won her first world championship title in 2024, will compete as the defending champion. She will face fierce competition from Thailand's top player Nutcharut Wongharuthai, 12-time world champion Reanne Evans from the UK, Hong Kong's renowned player Ng On-yee, and others. Notably, local Dongguan player Liu Ziling will also take the stage, showcasing the region's growing depth of snooker talent and strengthens Changping's identity as a "Town of Snooker."
Changping has been actively building its reputation as a global snooker hub, developing a complete industry chain, from training and tournaments to manufacturing. The town has attracted snooker equipment manufacturers, with products exported to over 30 countries and regions.
Changping has not only secured hosting rights for the World Women's Snooker Championship from 2024 to 2026, but also holds a five-year priority to continue hosting the event. Even more impressively, the town is constructing the world's largest snooker complex, the Dongguan Changping Snooker Center, which will feature elite training facilities, international tournament venues, cultural exchange zones, and leisure spaces. Once completed, it will fill a major gap in China's professional snooker infrastructure.
This championship is part of Dongguan's key activities in preparation for the 15th National Games. The upcoming Dongguan Changping Snooker Center will become a new sports landmark in the Greater Bay Area, and serve as a key platform for international exchange during the Games.
