The Huawei Developer Conference 2025 (HDC 2025) opened with great fanfare on the afternoon of June 20 in Dongguan's Songshan Lake, marking the sixth consecutive year the tech giant has chosen the city as the home base for its flagship developer event since 2019.
Running from June 20 to 22, the conference is being held alongside the vibrant Songshan Lake Developer Carnival 2025, creating a four-day celebration of cutting-edge innovation, open collaboration, and next-generation digital ecosystems.
At the main keynote session, Huawei Executive Director and Consumer BG Chairman Richard Yu traced the remarkable evolution of HarmonyOS. He highlighted how the system, built on OpenHarmony, has become the digital foundation powering intelligent transformation across thousands of industries in China. According to Yu, HarmonyOS has now entered its "best development stage yet."
A major highlight of the event was the official launch of HarmonyOS 6, featuring a new full-scenario architecture designed to support a broader, more intelligent range of applications. The update showcases Huawei's commitment to deepening its ecosystem and embracing the era of AI.
Yu also unveiled the Harmony Agent Framework, with over 50 Harmony-powered agents set to go live. Meanwhile, the HarmonyOS 6 Developer Beta is now open to developers, signaling the system's full-scale integration of AI technologies.
HDC 2025 is expected to draw over 12,000 developers from around the globe, with a strong focus on HarmonyOS ecosystem expansion, AI advancements, and industry partnerships.
From the birth of HarmonyOS to the launch of its commercial version, Dongguan has been a key witness to the system's entire journey. Now, as HarmonyOS NEXT gains momentum, Dongguan-based companies are racing to embed themselves within the growing ecosystem. Local software developers such as YYNote, NiuJingLing, Mvector, Dlangyun, and Mr. Pu have launched a wave of proprietary apps built on HarmonyOS NEXT, eager to tap into the promise of a truly connected future.
On the hardware side, Dongguan offers fertile ground for HarmonyOS integration. By September last year, over 40 products from more than 10 local companies, including DeRUCCI, TailG, and Lebooo, had joined Huawei's HarmonyOS Connect platform. Additionally, leading ecosystem partners like Chinasoft International, iSoftStone, Talkweb, Runhe Software, and Archermind have established subsidiaries in Dongguan.
With strong industrial foundations in intelligent devices, robotics, smart home tech, digital healthcare, education, and art toys, Dongguan's manufacturers are uniquely positioned to leverage HarmonyOS to enhance product competitiveness and explore new market frontiers.
Huawei and Dongguan's partnership dates back to 2005. What began with base station and terminal R&D and manufacturing has evolved into a full-spectrum collaboration, from building digital government services to the global debut of HarmonyOS. As Huawei deepens its investment in software and ecosystems, Dongguan continues to rise as a hub of digital innovation and industrial transformation.
