"What does Dongguan look like in your memory?" Is it the sound of children's laughter echoing under a Hakka watchtower? The dynamic energy of smart manufacturing in the city's innovation corridors? Or perhaps a treasured letter from overseas family members, carrying words across oceans? 

Dongguan, a city of manufacturing power and hometown ties to overseas Chinese, awaits rediscovery through your camera. Starting September 1, 2025, the Global Photography and Short Video Event "Capturing Dongguan through Overseas Chinese Eyes" officially kicks off, co-hosted by the United Front Work Department of Dongguan CPC Committee and the Dongguan Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. 

Whether you live abroad, or are based in Dongguan, we invite you to share your unique stories. Let your lens connect hearts across continents and let the world see a full, vivid, and authentic Dongguan. 

01 Why Participate?    

This is your chance to tell Dongguan's story and your own. 

Your work becomes Dongguan's calling card! Selected entries will be featured in the Capturing Dongguan through Overseas Chinese Eyes exhibition, showcasing the city's new image, vibrant industries, and living traditions. 

Your story will be heard! Top works may be published in Dongguan Observation magazine, amplifying your voice and heritage. 

Your passion will be recognized! Prizes include First, Second, Third Awards, Popularity Awards, and Excellence Awards, with honorary certificates and opportunities to connect with professional photographers and overseas Chinese community leaders.

Everyone who carries Dongguan in their heart! 

Overseas Chinese associations, chambers of commerce, or individuals abroad who want to support their hometown. 

Overseas returnees and local residents who wish to capture the city's transformation. 

International friends and cultural enthusiasts who want to showcase Dongguan's diversity. 

03 What to Capture?    

Six themes to spark your creativity: 

  1. City Impressions – From Dongguan Avenue's traffic flow to historic arcades and new waterfront skylines.

2. Industrial Waves – Robotics in Songshan Lake, design sparks at Humen Fashion Center, production lines at Huawei. 

3. Everyday Life – Dragon boat races, traditional puppet art, sizzling street food. 

4. Overseas Chinese Stories – Tales of return, dedication in education, family traditions. 

5. Green Dongguan – Mountain landscapes, flower fields, wetlands and wildlife. 

6. Cultural Fusion – International friends celebrating Chinese traditional festivals in Dongguan, community exchanges, East-meets-West encounters. 

Submission Details         

01 Timeline   

Submissions: Sept. 1 – Oct. 5, 2025 

Online Voting: Oct. 6 – Oct. 15, 2025 

Jury Review: Mid-October 2025 Opening 

Ceremony + Exhibition: Late October 2025 

02 Work Requirements   

Photography: JPG, 1MB-15MB, at least 3000 pixels on long side; single photo or series (max 8). 

Short Videos: MP4, horizontal, 1080P, 30s-3min, bitrate ≥5Mbps, ≤500MB, no watermark. 

03 Submission Channels   

1. WeChat Mini Program: “知东莞爱活动” → Capturing Dongguan through Overseas Chinese Eyes section. 

2. Email (recommended for multiple works): 

First, download and complete the entry form via QR code. 

Second, send your works and form (Word + signed scan) to qiaoshedongguan@qq.com. 

Third, email subject or file name format: Photo (or Video) + Work Title + Your Name (e.g. Photo + Morning Mist in Songshan Lake + Zhang San). 

Group submissions via overseas associations or local federations are welcome. 

Awards & Evaluation       

01 Evaluation   

Online votes (30%) + Expert review (70%). 

02 Awards    

1st, 2nd, 3rd Prizes, Popularity Awards (top 10), Excellence Awards (in both photo and video categories). Winners receive certificates, exhibition opportunities, and possible publication in Dongguan Observation. 

03 Reminders   

1.Works must be original, respecting copyright and portrait rights.

2.By submitting, you grant organizers non-commercial rights for promotion, exhibition, and publication, with attribution to the author. 

3.Infringement or sensitive content will result in disqualification.
