The so-called "supermoon" appeared above Dongguan tonight, bathing the city in soft silver light. Many residents stopped in their tracks to capture the breathtaking scene with their cameras.

While "supermoon" isn't a formal astronomical term, it refers to the moment when the moon is both full and closest to Earth in its elliptical orbit. Because of this short distance, the moon looks larger and brighter than usual, creating a spectacular sight.

According to astronomers, the moon reached its fullest point at 21:19 on November 5, and passed its closest distance to Earth, about 357,000 kilometers, at 6:27 on November 6. This makes it the closest and biggest full moon of 2025.

Anyone in Dongguan with clear skies could easily enjoy the glowing lunar view. And if you missed it, don't worry, one more supermoon will grace the sky this year, with the next one expected on December 5.
