Finding parking at a large hospital can be stressful, especially during peak hours. That experience is now set to change at Dongguan People's Hospital, where a new large-scale underground parking facility officially opened on January 11, adding around 1,200 parking spaces to the hospital campus.
The parking area is part of Dongguan's first Transport-Integrated Development (TID) project combining public transport and healthcare. Built within the hospital's Honglou Campus, the complex is directly connected to Metro Line 1's People's Hospital Station, allowing patients and visitors to move smoothly between metro, car, and medical buildings without unnecessary detours.
The underground parking area covers approximately 61,900 square meters across two basement levels. With smart parking guidance systems, drivers can quickly locate available spaces, reducing congestion and unnecessary circling.
From the parking area, visitors can reach ground level and hospital departments via elevators, staircases, escalators connected to sunken plaza. This design significantly eases parking pressure and improves traffic flow around the hospital.
A key feature of the new facility is the "drop-off-and-go" zone on Basement Level 1. Private cars and ride-hailing vehicles can drive directly underground to this area, where 12-15 vehicles can stop at the same time. After passengers get off, they can immediately access outpatient clinics, emergency services and inpatient buildings. Drivers may then park nearby or leave the area quickly, keeping traffic moving smoothly.
For emergency situations, a dedicated rapid-access lane connects the Emergency Center with nearby roads, allowing ambulances and urgent vehicles to reach the emergency department without delay.
Above ground, the project also improves the hospital environment itself. A 20,000-square-meter open plaza blends green space with cultural displays that reflect the hospital's long history.
The covered pedestrian corridors allow patients and visitors to move between departments comfortably, even during rain or extreme weather, making the entire hospital visit more relaxed and dignified.
