Dongguan is set to experience a noticeable weather shift in the coming days, with temperatures taking a sharp downturn after a brief warm spell. What may feel like early spring now will soon give way to a cold snap, bringing the city's lowest temperature down to around 9°C next week.
According to China's National Meteorological Center, a strong cold wave is expected to sweep across large parts of the country from the night of January 17 through January 21, triggering widespread rain, snow, and icy conditions. Central and eastern regions will face the most intense winter weather so far this season. As the cold air continues to move south, South China, including Guangdong, will be affected between January 20 and 21, with chilly conditions likely to persist through January 23.
Dongguan Weather

Local forecasts indicate that Dongguan will remain relatively mild from January 17 to 19, with sunny to partly cloudy skies and slightly rising temperatures. Over the coming weekend, daytime highs may reach around 26°C, making it a good time for outdoor activities.
However, the situation will change quickly. From January 20 onward, a new round of cold air will bring cooler, windier conditions. Temperatures are expected to drop significantly, with the lowest temperature falling to about 9°C by Friday next week. Residents are advised to monitor the forecast closely and dress in layers to stay warm.
Meanwhile, the first typhoon of the year, named Nokaen, formed on January 15 over the western Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines.
Forecasts suggest that Nokaen may strengthen further before turning northeast. Importantly, it is not expected to have any direct impact on Guangdong or Dongguan, either on land or at sea.
