Huawei has unveiled its first HarmonyOS-powered AI glasses on April 20, and behind the sleek design is a strong dose of Dongguan manufacturing.

Produced in Songshan Lake, Dongguan, the device combines lightweight wearable design with practical AI features for everyday use. At just 35.5 grams, the glasses are built for all-day use, with a slim frame and balanced structure designed to fit comfortably without feeling bulky.

The biggest highlight is the first-person camera. Equipped with a 12MP sensor and fast capture speed, the glasses let users instantly record what they see, no need to pull out a phone. Stabilization and AI image processing help keep footage clear, even in motion.

Beyond capturing moments, the glasses act like a hands-free assistant. With built-in AI, users can ask about objects, landmarks or food in real time and get immediate answers. Everyday functions like calorie recognition, voice interaction and QR code payments are integrated into the experience, making it possible to handle tasks hands-free.

Audio is handled through an open-ear system, allowing users to listen to music or take calls while staying aware of their surroundings. The glasses also connect seamlessly with Huawei's ecosystem, syncing with phones and other devices for a smoother experience. It can deliver up to 12 hours of typical use. A quick 10-minute magnetic charge provides enough power for about three hours of music playback or up to 200 photos.

Behind this product is Dongguan's manufacturing strength. Dongguan has built a complete supply chain for AI eyewear, from camera modules and acoustic components to precision manufacturing, making it possible to turn advanced concepts into real products at scale quickly. 

The city is currently home to 47 key XR-related projects with a total investment of RMB 20.3 billion. Earlier this year, Dongguan rolled out a package of targeted policies aimed at developing a world-class XR smart device cluster and accelerating the growth of a trillion-yuan industry. These measures provide end-to-end support, from innovation and R&D to scaling up production, creating a solid foundation for companies to grow.
