The 2026 ASEAN Cooperation Day and Guangdong (Dongguan)–ASEAN Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange was held in Dongguan. The event brought together government officials, diplomats, business associations and company representatives to explore new opportunities in trade, investment and industrial cooperation.
Li Xin, Vice Chairwoman of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, described Dongguan as an important gateway and advanced manufacturing hub connecting Guangdong with ASEAN and facilitating regional industrial and supply chains.
Wei Hao, Secretary of the CPC Dongguan Municipal Committee, noted that Southeast Asia is one of Dongguan's key trading partners. With strong foundations in electronic information and advanced equipment manufacturing, the city sees considerable potential for deeper cooperation with ASEAN markets.
Cindy Wee, Consul-General of Singapore in Guangzhou, and Phanthavong Bouthasavong, Consul-General of Laos in Guangzhou, highlighted Dongguan's increasingly active role in Guangdong-ASEAN cooperation. They looked forward to deeper collaboration in industrial and supply chains, infrastructure connectivity, two-way investment, green development, electricity, modern services and people-to-people exchanges.
Zheng Jianmin, Chairman of the Dongguan Municipal Committee of the CPPCC, called on Dongguan and ASEAN countries to build closer industrial, trade and cultural partnerships through existing regional cooperation platforms.
Harris Alwi, Consul General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, and consular officials from Cambodia, Vietnam and the Philippines also attended. During the event, representatives from ASEAN consulates, business associations and Dongguan companies heard presentations on China–ASEAN trade prospects, the global expansion of Dongguan products and the city's airport logistics hub. An exhibition featuring more than 200 locally made products, from electronics and home appliances to fashion, hardware and food, offered visitors a close look at the diversity and strength of Dongguan manufacturing.
