On September 12, Stephen Curry will attend Guangdong City Basketball League All-Star Game 2026 at Changan Sports Park Gymnasium, becoming another NBA superstar to land in Dongguan!
Curry’s visit continues Dongguan’s decades-long connection with some of basketball’s biggest names. In 2004, basketball legend Michael Jordan, visited Gaobu Town in Dongguan to tour a shoe factory; in 2012, stars such as Gary Payton and Demar DeRozan marveled at the training facilities at Dongguan Basketball School; at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, NBA players such as Tony Mitchell and Jayson Tatum took to the court at the Dongguan Basketball Centre; in 2023, Allen Iverson led his team to Dongguan to participate in the China Tour. Now, Stephen Curry, the NBA’s all-time “three-point king”, is set to visit. His long-range shooting has transformed the way basketball is played. Dongguan once again takes center stage on the NBA star map.
The reason Dongguan has become a favourite destination for NBA superstars is, first and foremost, that it is a world-class manufacturing hub, producing over a quarter of the world’s sports shoes, as well as a vast quantity of jerseys and sports equipment for international sports brands. Secondly, Dongguan boasts a vibrant basketball culture and is renowned as the National Basketball City. Here, every village has a basketball court and every town has a sports hall; the city’s nearly 7,000 basketball courts form a 15-minute fitness circle. Unsurprisingly, Dongguan has earned nationwide renown for its basketball programs.
