“Manufacturing Art: Toward Dongguan as a City of Manufacturing Aesthetics” exhibition series is set to open in Beijing on September 12. The exhibition features 35 artists from China, South Korea, Germany and the United Kingdom, who visited 21 manufacturing enterprises in Dongguan and, over a period of eight months, collaboratively created hundreds of contemporary artworks. This marks the second time Dongguan has brought its manufacturing aesthetics to Beijing, following the 2025 Li Jinghu Contemporary Art Project.

Situated in the Greater Bay Area, Dongguan boasts a cultural heritage stretching back a thousand years and has witnessed vigorous growth of China’s industry. At the end of 2024, Dongguan became China’s first city to put forward the concept of “manufacturing aesthetics”. This exhibition represents Dongguan’s practical exploration to delve deeper into the cultural significance.

“Manufacturing art” is a contemporary art concept introduced for the first time in this exhibition. It offers an artistic perspective on product design, production techniques, corporate management and social impact within manufacturing, transforming the abstract theory of “manufacturing aesthetics” into tangible artistic practice.

The exhibition will officially open at Stay Space, Langyuan Station, Beijing. It will run from 12 to 27 September, with daily opening hours from 11:00 to 19:00. From the assembly line to the art gallery, “made in Dongguan” is extending an invitation to Beijing audiences in the name of art.
