On September 12, “Manufacturing Art: Toward Dongguan as a City of Manufacturing Aesthetics” exhibition series opened at E4 Space, Langyuan Station, Beijing, showcasing 29 sets of artworks originating from Dongguan, with over 100 guests in attendance.

The exhibition introduced the concept of “manufacturing art” for the first time. Curator Shu Yang stated that artistic creation and corporate research and development are both experimental processes, each requiring trial and error to progress. Li Shengli, Chairman of Guangdong Impressionist Garments Co., Ltd., remarked: “Manufacturers are the source of all beauty.”

The centerpiece artwork, Pupil, is made from metal scraps generated during the production of art toys. It features a giant pupil built with a steel-and-wood structure and embedded LED imagery, creating an immersive visual encounter that invites viewers to see “Made in China” in a new light. On the opening day, a roundtable on Dongguan’s manufacturing aesthetics was also held, aiming to bring manufacturing aesthetics into academic and industrial dialogue.

From the world’s factory to a city of manufacturing aesthetics, Dongguan is integrating cultural forces into the entire manufacturing chain, making the beauty of design, craftsmanship, products, and humanistic culture part of the value of manufacturing.
