Heavy rain and thunderstorms will once again batter Guangdong over the weekend, according to the provincial meteorological department. The thunderstorms will bring strong winds to parts of the province.

The meteorological department foresee the so-called ‘Dragon Boat Rain' continuing until the end of June. Accordingly, they have again issued warnings that the torrential and continuous rainfalls may trigger floods and landslides among other hazardous conditions due to high ground water levels. Please exercise extra caution when out and about in rural areas, and be alert to the risk of flooding in lower lying areas in the city.

The province's met office released the above image highlighting a total of 20 so-called ‘rain nests’, places in which mountainous topography surrounding a bowl shaped valley will lead to heavier than average rainfall. Residents in these areas should remain extremely vigilant over the coming week.
