Travelers entering Shenzhen from Hong Kong are now required to present a negative nucleic acid test report issued within 24 hours in a move to contain cross-border transmissions, according to the latest notice released by Shenzhen’s epidemic prevention and control headquarters Wednesday evening.

According to the notice, starting from 10 a.m. Friday, travelers entering Shenzhen from Hong Kong via Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint must present a negative nucleic acid test report that was issued within 24 hours by a qualified testing institution recognized by both the Guangdong and Hong Kong governments and also undergo a 14-day collective medical observation after arrival.

For important government functionaries, businesspeople and cross-border truck drivers who have been exempted from collective observation, current stipulations will continue to apply.

An earlier notice released by the epidemic control headquarters July 16 stipulated that inbound travelers from Hong Kong should present a negative nucleic acid test report issued within 72 hours.

Hong Kong reported 95 COVID-19 cases Thursday, bringing the total number of cases in the city to 3,849.
