As Guangdong is under severe pressure to prevent imported COVID-19 cases from overseas, the province must establish a herd immunity protective screen as soon as possible.
In light of the overall shortage of vaccine supplies, Guangdong is now adopting a “ladder-marching” strategy, with the inoculation priority to be given to the cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Foshan, Dongguan and Zhuhai. These five cities are where the key ports are located in, including Guangdong Province’s capital city, Guangzhou. All adjacent to Hong Kong and Macao SARs, the five cities are conducting more international exchanges with people and businesses than other cities within the province. Thus the top priority will be given to the five cities to guarantee the vaccine supplies and inoculations to those who are eligible to be vaccinated.
For the rest of Guangdong Province, those identified as the high-risk groups who need to be inoculated again and the people who will receive the second dose of vaccines, with the interval of 28-56 days, will be guaranteed to get vaccinated first. Luckily, it is expected that the vaccine supplies will be increased gradually in these regions as the country is providing more and more vaccines to Guangdong.
At present, the daily vaccination capacity in Guangdong has reached more than 1.5 million doses. As of 24:00 on April 5th, over nine million people across the province had been inoculated with more than 11.2 million doses of vaccines.
