An online meeting was held between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) on July 30, aiming to facilitate industrial cooperation between two regions and help Guangdong enterprises to enter the Southeast Asian market.

The meeting shed light into the opportunities of forming economic partnerships between GBA and EEC while giving an introduction of the development of digital economy and industry 4.0 in EEC.

Arthayudh Srisamoot, Ambassador of Thailand to China, said that Thailand and Guangdong maintained extensive exchanges of high-level visits to expand economic cooperation, particularly in technology and innovation. He firmly believed that Thailand and Guangdong face tremendous opportunities because the RCEP will benefit the two regions in various ways, such as greater market access due to reduced tariff and simplified customs procedures, more integrated on cross-border online market and platforms, and reduction of costs in trade and investment by using the common rule of origin.

Fang Lixu, President of CCPIT (Guangdong), said the GBA and EEC should seize the opportunities of digital economic and further communication and partnership. He highlighted that the two regions could further cooperation through four major aspects including industrial investment, industrial parks, cross-border e-commerce as well as industry and commerce groups of both regions.

The meeting was jointly organized by the Royal Thai Consulate General in Guangzhou, Guangdong Department of Commerce, CCPIT (Guangdong) and EEC Office of Thailand.

About 80 representatives of government departments, chambers of commerce and enterprises of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao participated in the meeting on behalf of the GBA side.
