Editor's note: As Dongguan officially became a megacity with a GDP exceeding 1 trillion yuan and a population of over 10 million, the Internet Information Office of the Dongguan and Dongguan Radio and Television Station jointly planned and produced the "Amazing Dongguan" video series to show the charm of Dongguan to people home and abroad.

At this new starting point, Dongguan vows to focus on the "technological innovation plus advanced manufacturing" campaign in its next five-year development.

The Songshan Lake Science City, which targets building itself into a science city with global influence, has received tremendous support in policies, funds, and talents. Advanced scientific research institutions and high-end talents from all over the world have been attracted since its construction.

Matthew Musgrave, a physicist from the United States, works at the China Spallation Neutron Source Science Center in Songshan Lake Science City. As a foreigner who newly arrived in Dongguan, he will take us to experience "The Big Bang Theory" in Dongguan today.

"Here we make Helium-3 spin filter cells," Matthew introduced his work at the lab. "Dongguan provides us really up to the standard high-tech equipment to conduct all those experiments," said Matthew. In recent years, Dongguan has done a lot of work in technological innovation, such as constructing large-scale facilities for science and platforms for scientific research, providing a good environment for high-end talents working in the city.

"Here in Dongguan, there is a great opportunity for all of us, including the students, post-doctors, and visiting scientists that will be able to work with us in the future," Matthew added. The word "talent" was mentioned many times in the 15th Congress of the CPC Dongguan Committee report. In the next five years, with building a powerhouse of talents in the new era as the starting point, Dongguan shall race to the new heights in the talent pool in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The young scientist's hobbies are nature, the outdoors and running. "Dongguan is a great place to do that because of all the parks. All my friends and colleagues will go enjoying nature or enjoying the city life on the weekend."

When asked whether he sees himself staying here long-term, "I certainly do," Matthew replied without hesitation, "I hope to make Dongguan my home."
